Carrageen is a good plant source of protein, Vitamins (A, B group, C)  and minerals (Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Magnesium, Manganese).

This traditional coastal food is used as a setting/gelling/thickening agent in sweet and savoury cooking.

It is also used to cure coughs and as a decongestant in the form of a drink.

Carrageen (Chondrus crispus) is a natural wild food, gathered sustainably in summer time and dried. It is not to be confused with carrageenan, a commercially-produced extract from seaweed, used in industrial food production as a gelling/thickening agent.

It is also known as Irish Moss.
